چکیده

In this paper performance limits of optical OFDM transmission systems are investigated. The maximum achievable spectral efficiency is limited by additive noise of optical amplifiers and non-linear fiber effects. In order to assess this measure, a “weakly nonlinear” system model is used. For a given transmission scenario, there is a minimum power of signal distortion at a specific optical launch power; from this measure an estimate for the maximum achievable spectral efficiency can be deduced.

Performances comparison of a coherent optical OFDM system

This paper addresses OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) transmission over optical links with high spectral efficiency, i.e. by using high-order QAM-modulation schemes as a mapping method prior to the OFDM multicarrier representation. Here we address especially coherent optical OFDM modem in long distance. Numerical simulations of the coherent optical orthogonal frequency division...

Optical Monitoring for Non-Linearity Identification in Long-haul O-OFDM Transmission

Optical monitoring at end-terminals is considered a cost efficient technique. Utilizing coherent detection allows separating linear and non-linear effects. Channel identification in CO-OFDM receivers is proposed as candidate to achieve this objective. © 2007 Optical Society of America OCIS code(s): (060.2330) Fiber optic communication; (060.4080) Modulation

Spectral Efficient Coding Schemes in Optical Communications

Achieving high spectral efficiency in optical transmissions has recently attracted much attention, aiming to satisfy the ever increasing demand for high data rates in optical fiber communications. Therefore, strong Forward Error Correct ion (FEC) coding in combination with mult ilevel modulat ion schemes is mandatory to approach the channel capacity of the transmission link. In this paper we g ...

Digital Domain Power Division Multiplexed Dual Polarization Coherent Optical OFDM Transmission

Capacity is the eternal pursuit for communication systems due to the overwhelming demand of bandwidth hungry applications. As the backbone infrastructure of modern communication networks, the optical fiber transmission system undergoes a significant capacity growth over decades by exploiting available physical dimensions (time, frequency, quadrature, polarization and space) of the optical carri...

Comparisons of spectrally-enhanced asymmetrically-clipped optical OFDM systems.

Asymmetrically clipped optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (ACO-OFDM) is a technique that sacrifices spectral efficiency in order to transmit an orthogonally frequency-division multiplexed signal over a unipolar channel, such as a directly modulated direct-detection fiber or free-space channel. Several methods have been proposed to regain this spectral efficiency, including: asym...
